On May 22, Nicosia witnessed a remarkable display of unity and sportsmanship as 54 participants took part in an orienteering race organized under the ORIUNITE project. The event was more than a sporting challenge — it was a journey across the city’s historic divide, beginning in the Greek Cypriot-controlled south, crossing the UN-patrolled buffer zone, and concluding in the Turkish Cypriot north.
Participants navigated the city with maps and compasses, overcoming obstacles and solving challenges together, demonstrating the power of sport to foster collaboration and mutual understanding. The race symbolized the project’s mission to bridge communities, promote dialogue, and cultivate empathy among young people from different backgrounds.
