On 3 October 2026, Sarajevo hosted an international orienteering event as part of ORIUNITE, co-funded by the European Union. With 59 participants in total, the event was a great success, bringing people together for a day of sport, exploration and shared experiences.
Organised by the Sports and Recreation Alliance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Orienteering Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the event offered a different way to discover Sarajevo. Participants used their navigation skills to find their way, combining physical activity with the excitement of exploring the city.
Participation was free, and the event welcomed both experienced orienteers and people trying the sport for the first time. Medals and certificates recognised participants’ efforts, with special prizes for the top three places.
The event also gave us the opportunity to conduct interviews and collect footage and other material for our upcoming ORIUNITE documentary. These contributions will help us share participants’ experiences and show how orienteering can bring people and communities together across borders.

Through this event, ORIUNITE highlighted how sport can create opportunities for connection and intercultural dialogue. Sharing a challenge and exploring a place together can help people meet, exchange experiences and build relationships.
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, everyone involved and all 59 participants who made this day in Sarajevo such a success!
