STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If it’s March, it’s time for the Unity Games.

They’ll once again take place at Susan Wagner High School, the Joan and Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center in Sea View, and at St. Rita’s School in Meiers Corners, on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The unique and innovative project that was born through the efforts of longtime friends Dr. Mark Sherman and Jacob Carey continues to gather city youngsters of all ethnicities over their love of basketball.

This year marks the Unity Games milestone year — two decades of gathering sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys and girls at the two-day event that focuses on creating friendships, and involving the children in educational workshops that discuss significant issues.

Sea view Unity Games aim to promote cultural diversity, good sportsmanship and respect The unique two-day event, now in its 21st year, incorporates basketball as a vehicle for bringing children together.
