ORIENTACTION
PROJECT COORDINATOR - CYPRUS 🇨🇾
OrientactionIs leading the way in orienteering, working hard to introduce the sport to more people across the island. They’re focused on bringing orienteering into schools, making special maps for students to use and encouraging teachers to include it in their lessons. They regularly organize events, making sure there’s something happening at least once a month. These events bring together people of all ages and backgrounds who share a love for orienteering. They also team up with the military and scout clubs to organize joint events, bringing different communities together through orienteering.
Mapping is a big part of what Orientaction does too. They create maps specifically for orienteering and also make topographical maps to help hiking clubs and outdoor enthusiasts explore new areas.
Regarding “conflict resolution”, the club had in the past organized three orienteering events in villages of Cyprus involving Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot students.
SIBARIS CLUB
PARTNER - HUNGARY 🇭🇺
Sibaris Club is a pioneer in the sport sector using orienteering as a tool for reconciliation among youth from conflict-affected communities.
“Hungary was detached by the iron curtain from Western countries until 1989, and I was one of the first who visited the hidden terrain after being allowed to run close to the official border. Then I decided to organize a really big event to show the hidden terrain for many more orienteers – to feel more freedom in our favorite sport. Then in 1995 we could
organize an official Alpe-Adria 3 days event close to Köszeg, where the elite long-distance course was started in Austria, and finished in Hungary. Huge preparation, one control point on the green border, officials from both sides, passports were collected at the start, and I took the full package with my car to Hungary.. All together we had 820 runners, crossing
borders with cca 90 athletes, including some juniors/seniors who ran the longest course to be part of history” Zoltan Szerdahely (President of Sibaris Club).
Nowadays everything is much smoother than before. And the activities of this project are part of a structured and solid collaboration with the Austrian Orienteering Federation. Sibaris Club has indeed been very active for years in promoting orienteering among young people, also organizing numerous initiatives and competitions for schools, involving the two countries.

Moreover, CROF places a strong emphasis on youth development, offering training programs and workshops to nurture the next generation of orienteers.
